Atletico Madrid vs Club Brugge LIvE
These two teams have met on five previous occasions, stretching back to the late 1970s, and the home side has won every time. However, it would be one of the shocks of the tournament if Club Brugge were to continue that trend here. They do at least have some recent(ish) pedigree for defeating La Liga clubs, having beaten Valencia at the Jan Breydel Stadium in 2010. Atletico Madrid’s last defeat to Belgian opposition also came here back in 1992. Regardless of the result tonight, though, Croatian coach Ivan Leko’s side are guaranteed a spot in the Europa League knock-out rounds, which they’ll no doubt view as a success after being drawn in a group alongside two European heavyweights.
Atleti warmed up for this game nicely on Saturday with a deserved 3-0 home win over high-flying Alaves, who were up in fourth position going into the match-day. But the Madrid club were rocked in the build-up to that match by the news that Diego Costa will be out for up to three months following an operation on his left foot. They’re already assured of progress into the next stage of the Champions League, although a win here would guarantee them top spot in the group.

With both teams already assured of progress into the next round of the Europa League and Champions League respectively, the pressure should be off going into this game.
Both Atleti and Brugge’s Champions League fate has already been decided going into this match, with Atlético guaranteed qualification into the next round and Brugge set to drop into the Europa League.
However, Diego Simeone’s side must beat Brugge if they are to secure top spot in Group A. Having beaten the Belgian side 3-1 in the reverse fixture in October, Atlético are clear favourites to win the game and to finish above Borussia Dortmund.
Atletico Madrid are out to seal top spot in Group A away to Club Brugge on Tuesday.
Two points separate Diego Simeone’s side and Borussia Dortmund – who are in action away to Monaco.
Matching Dortmund’s result will guarantee Atletico progress as group winners.
